Cha Jun Hwan,

A Rising Star of Korean Figure Skating

Q1. Could you give us a brief self-introduction?

A1. Hello, my name is Cha Jun Hwan, and now I am a member of the Korean

national team as a figure skater.

Q2. What is the main reason you started figure skating?

A2. I started figure skating when I was in a vacation camp when I was in the second

grade in elementary school, and I got interested in the sport and kept skating

           since then.

Q3. When is the most difficult time for you during your daily routine?

A3. There is no time that is specifically difficult for me during my day.

Although most people say that practicing and making improvements is very

time-consuming and difficult, for me, since that is just my everyday life,

I don’t think it is as hard as people think.

Q4. What is your hobby when you are not practicing?

A4. There isn’t a specific one. I just sleep when I have free time.

Q5. Have you ever had a crisis during practicing since you began figure skating?

A5. As everyone thinks, the worst crisis for me is experiencing a slump or having

difficulties with spinning or having fatigue while having a season or starting

a season for big matches. But I think there have been no other special difficulties

           for me yet.

Q6. How did you contact your coach, Brian Orser (Yuna Kim’s previous coach)?

Are there any special stories about meeting him?

A6. There are no special stories about meeting him. Though I didn’t know much

about him and Yuna Kim, my parents contacted him and made him as my

coach since they knew that he is a famous and talented coach in this field.

Q7. Are there any difficulties balancing studying and practicing?

A7. It is very busy for me to wake up early and a little bit time-consuming to do both

things, but since schoolwork is fun, it is not that hard for me to do both things.

Q8. If you didn’t do figure skating, what do you think you would do?

A8. I would surely be studying as many Korean students do.

Q9. What is your biggest goal as a figure skater?

A9. There is no specific goal since I am not old enough to make a career, but doing

my best in every event and making no mistakes is my goal for every day.

Q10. What is the plan from now on? Can we see your performance in Pyeongchang?

A10. I have to go back to Canada from April and when I do, I will practice all day

long. I have to practice very hard because the season is coming. This season is

very important for me because if I can get a good score this season, I can be

a Korean senior national team member in Pyeongchang and perform there.

Q11. Is there anything to say to our students?

    A11. Cheer up!
